Job markets news |
My name is Wy Williams, and I am part of a Michigan team involved in a research project. We expect to publish the results.
As part of this research, we need specific responses to this question:
What do you want from your boss?
If you have a boss that you love, please tell us what he/she does right. If you have a boss that does just about everything wrong, what would make this person a better boss?
If you’ve ever been employed, please tell us what you want(ed) from that boss/manager/executive—anyone that calls the shots that impact you at work. Sure, we all want bigger salaries and more opportunity for growth, but what else?
- Do you long for more training in order perform better in your current position?
- Do you need your responsibilities more clearly defined?
- Do you want ongoing feedback regarding your performance?
- Are your superiors fair? Is staff treated equally?
- Should management pay more attention to your ideas/suggestions, or even complaints?
- Do you need more direct communication? Clearer communications? Formal communication?
- Are you often left out of the communication loop on projects or decisions that affect you?
- Do you wish management knew more about what is going on in their own workplace?
- What type of boss motivates you?
- Do you just want the truth?m your superiors?
- Anything else?

Come on—spit it out! In the COMMENT field, please share what it is you want from your boss. Feel free to add any anecdotes that provide specific examples that influenced your response. Please complete and submit this survey.
If you prefer to discuss your wish list rather than submit the survey, you may send an email to provide your first name, contact phone number and convenient times when we can reach you by phone.
